Dr. Chris Emdin at Sacramento City College - Friday, October 21 - 9-11 am
Freas
In an age where terms like “multiculturalism” and “cultural relevance” have been littered across the educational landscape, teachers and administrators still have a challenging time implementing instructional approaches/tools that meet the needs of diverse student populations. This talk focuses on Reality Pedagogy (RP); an approach to teaching and learning that provides educators with 7 practical tools for improving their practice. The tools of Reality Pedagogy are designed to support EVERY educator across ANY subject area in becoming more effective in transforming their classroom.
RP consists of Co-generative Dialogues, Co-teaching, Cosmopolitanism, Context, Content, Competition and Curation. These are the pillars of Dr. Emdin’s newest book, “For White Folks Who Teach In The Hood And the Rest of Ya’ll Too”. Additionally, it covers a merging of philosophy, theory and practice in a way that triggers a focus on a new way forward in education.
